Weed scientists generally don’t agree on the exact ranking of soybean’s worst weeds, but they mostly agree on which weeds belong in the top four or five that Midwestern soybean growers should be concerned about. Common waterhemp, giant ragweed, marestail (also commonly known as horseweed) and common lambsquarters are listed among the top problematic weeds for soybeans, according to weed experts in Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky and Minnesota. The Weed Science Society of America (WSSA) has announced it will co-sponsor an upcoming scientific summit on how to manage herbicide-resistant weeds — a costly and growing problem threatening crop production across the U.S. and around the globe. BASF has announced the addition of a new herbicide called Armezon to its portfolio of products. Armezon is a postemerge herbicide for corn that will control grasses and broadleaf weeds such as common lambsquarters, waterhemp, giant foxtail and crabgrass. The new herbicide also offers treatment for weeds resistant to glyphosate, triazines, PPOs and ALS inhibitors....More

In 2012, growers will have new fungicide and seed treatment options, as well as an array of weed control products for preseason and in-season control of broadleaves and grasses.
